My Bump My Bump My Bump

Dear Baby,

What Mommy wants, Mommy gets
Yep, I think I am officially showing. After a few weeks of not really having much to show, now I have a cute little bump that is more prominent in the evening. I also noticed at the airport that women (just women) would look at me and they were looking at my stomach, so I think little baby’s growing! I wore maternity pants for the first real time today, as in the first time I actually needed to wear them. I could have worn my regular jeans with a belly band, but I wasn’t so organized to have all that ready this morning after getting home around 9:30 last night.

I get to find out if you are a boy or a girl on December 30th and I can’t wait! I’ve been holding off on buying anything until I know, but with all these awesome sales it’s getting harder and harder. I’m really sorry if you are a boy and I cry because you aren’t a girl. I’ll still love you so don’t feel bad!

So far at almost 16 weeks I’ve gained 7 lbs. Gaining weight is a little daunting for me baby, as for many mommies, and I hope I don’t gain too much. I have to say that I do blame you for everything I’m eating (instead of saying “the devil made me do it” it’s “the baby made me do it”). Lately you’ve really been having me eat sweets like pies and candy. I read in those pregnancy magazines all these saintly mothers who “craved fruit” or the advice column says if you are craving something sweet grab a banana. A banana? Are you crazy? I’m grabbing an apple turnover and washing it down with some egg nog! Right?? A banana. Sheesh. I’ll tell you where to stick it.

Love,

Mommy

Black Friday

Terrified Daddy holding Baby Mark
Dear Baby,

Today I went shopping at the Flemington outlets with Grandma Gecik and Aunt Lisa. We went to a few baby stores. I found lots of things for you and am pretty sure you are a girl, but I didn’t buy anything. I’m really, really wanting to though! I met your cousin, Baby Mark, yesterday and I have to say that he is as cute as a button. Daddy held him last night and was terrified. We also discovered today that seeing a baby gag on Cheerios also makes Daddy gag, so we could have a lot of fun with that one in the future Baby!

You must be going through a growth spurt or something in my tummy because I’m starting to pooch quite a bit, although in the morning my tummy is pretty small. You make me gassy and bloated which is a real delight. Today however, I overheard a woman commenting to another woman about how “skinny” I am while waiting in the line at JCrew, which pleased me to no end. I don’t think she saw the pooch where you reside. Daddy saw the pooch though and spent most of the day gazing at me lovingly. He’s really excited about you, but I think you’re also going to terrify him when you come so just don’t take it personally.

I’m really sorry about what I ate today Baby. It’s kind of normal though to eat cookies and stuff for breakfast after Thanksgiving. I did have that salad though with lots of veggies and I’m pretty sure you were the one asking for the fries. But get ready because tonight we are going bowling and I heard they serve nachos there. You are gonna love the nachos Baby, trust me.

I was wondering though if you could maybe not sit directly on my bladder though. I know you don’t have anywhere else to go, but it would be nice to not feel the need to go pee every 20 minutes or so. Just some (more) food for thought.

Love,

Mommy

Dear Baby...

Well, this is hello I guess. I can’t believe you are really in my tummy, but the test came back positive all those weeks ago and yes, I saw you on the ultrasound so I know you’re in there. We didn’t think we wanted any kids, but as time went on I started to see a life without you as bleak and in some ways pointless. Don’t get me wrong though, we could have had a life full of dinners out and travel and fun couple stuff, but the idea of missing out on your first birthday or seeing you visit a zoo for the first time was just too much for me. I just had to meet you and then daddy agreed. God must have too because you were created so fast-on the first try-maybe too much info, but yes.

I haven’t felt you move or anything and I forget that you are in there, but then I remember when I have to go pee for what seems like the 14th time in an hour. Can you hear us yet? Do you like the food I’ve been eating? I took a sip of a Kahlua coffee the other night, but I don’t want you thinking that drinking is acceptable before legal age so don’t get too used to that.

So many people are excited to meet you Baby. Oma Kathy, Grandpa Keith. Grandma and Grandpa Gecik. Nana. Uncle Kevin. Uncle Kurt. Aunt Lisa and Uncle Dan. Aunt Louise and Uncle Ted. Aunt Brittany. Uncle Shaun and Aunt Tam. And guess what–you already have a cousin who’s waiting for you–Baby Mark. He’ll only be 6 months older that you, so won’t that be fun? Also, we can’t forget that you are so blessed to have THREE great-grandparents (you’re gonna have some good genes Baby!)-Great-Grandpa Fischer, Great-Grandma Sorrels and Great-Grandma Gecik. Baby, you are so loved!!

Love,

Mommy
